What a decode looks like
Synthetic example. Every note points at the exact line it is about.
- Estimated cost of attendance, 2027–28: $41,200
- Northgate Merit Scholarship: $12,000
- Federal Pell Grant: $3,100
- Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan: $2,000
- Parent PLUS Loan (eligible up to): $18,000
- Total aid offered: $35,100
Why this is hard
Loans listed as aid
Many offers put federal loans and Parent PLUS loans in the same list as grants, so the award looks larger than what you keep.
No two letters look alike
One school shows the full cost of attendance, another shows only tuition, and some show no cost at all.
Offers arrive weeks apart
Decisions are often due by May 1, so there's little time to line the numbers up yourself.
What you get
- Grants and scholarships separated from loans and work-study for every offer
- The first-year net cost of each school, calculated from each letter's own numbers
- Missing items flagged, such as offers that leave out housing, fees or books
- Editable questions for each financial aid office, such as whether a scholarship renews
What it is not
An explanation of your offers plus editable question templates. It doesn't recommend a school, loan or lender, and it isn't financial advice.

Questions
Which documents work?
College financial aid offers or award letters, as PDFs, screenshots or pasted text. Comparing two offers would cost 2 credits at launch.
Why not just ask ChatGPT?
You can, and it may do the math if you set it up carefully. What we add is a fixed structure: both offers in the same table, every grant and loan quoted from its letter so you can check it, and missing costs flagged. There's no prompt to write, and uploaded files are deleted within 24 hours unless you choose to save them. Whether that's worth 2 credits is what we're asking before we build it.
Will it tell me which school is the better deal?
No. We don't recommend schools, loans or lenders. We show what each offer actually gives and costs, so you can compare them yourself.
